Welcome Letter

Dear Parents and Guardians,

Welcome to the 2024-2025 school year at Mayer Middle School and Fairview High School! As we prepare to embark on another exciting academic year, I want to express my heartfelt gratitude for your continued support and partnership in your child’s education. We are thrilled to have your family as part of our school community and are eager to work together to ensure a successful and enriching year for all students.

I am also delighted to introduce Mr. Ethan Lubera, our new Associate Principal at Fairview High School. Mr. Lubera brings a wealth of experience and a passion for fostering student growth and academic excellence. He is excited to engage with students, staff, and families to support our mission of providing a supportive and dynamic learning environment. Please join me in welcoming Mr. Lubera to our school community. Together, we look forward to a fantastic year filled with growth, learning, and achievement.

ATTENDANCE: THE KEY TO YOUR CHILD’S SUCCESS!

With the passage of House Bill 410, it has become necessary to keep a detailed account of student absences to the minute. Not only is it important that your student arrives on time and attend school daily, but your student’s success in school also depends on having a solid, educational background that can only be gained through regular school attendance.

If you are dropping off your high school student after the school day has begun, please be sure to notify our attendance office of your student’s arrival. If you are picking your student up early, the attendance office needs to know the time your student is leaving so a pass can be issued to your student for him/her to leave the building. High School students do not need to be signed in or out of the building.

If you are picking up or dropping off your middle school student, please park in front of the Middle School entrance on Campus Drive and enter via the Middle School main office to sign your student in or out of school.

District is Cashless

Just a reminder that our district is “cashless. Tickets for athletic events can be purchased with a credit or debit card online or at the gate. In addition, a cash option will be made available at the gate.

NEW THIS YEAR: The Fairview Park City School District has used PayForIt.net as a fast and convenient way for parents and guardians to pay for school meals and fees throughout the year. Starting in July 2024, PayForIt officially moved to their new home at PaySchools Central.

When logging into PayForIt, users will be prompted with a message that their PayForIt account has been replaced by PaySchools Central and will provide a link to access PaySchools Central. Parents can review and approve credential information that has been migrated. See more information about school fees below.

Dress Code

The responsibility for student dress and grooming rests primarily with the students and their parents. It is the school’s responsibility to maintain and enforce a dress code that is both safe and presents a positive image to the school and community. Administration will determine what is appropriate for the school. Violations of the student dress code may incur changing or forfeiting of the inappropriate item, parental contact or disciplinary action. For reasons of spirit or student morale, modifications may be made on special days by the Administration.

GENERAL INFORMATION DRESS CODE:

Students shall appear in school and at school sponsored activities in dress that is clean, in good taste, and in a manner that will not tend to disrupt the school activity nor create a condition that would be adverse to the safety and health of the students. Student dress may be regulated if the administration deems said attire to be bizarre, offensive, disruptive or distracting to the educational process. After parent contact students may be sent home if a change of clothes is not available. Violations of these standards and guidelines shall be handled by the building principal and his/her designee who shall determine appropriate actions to be taken.

The following guidelines shall constitute the student dress code.

Students shall, at all times, wear some kind of shoes and/or sandals.
Shorts and skirts should provide adequate coverage to the thigh.
Dark glasses are not to be worn unless prescribed by a doctor.
All hats and head coverings worn are not to include vulgar, obscene, libelous, or denigrate others because of race, color, weight, religion, religious practice, ancestry, national origin, ethnic group, gender/sex, sexual orientation or disability, etc. If a student is asked to remove a hat or other headgear by any school personnel, the request must be honored promptly with no discussion.
Style of dress that exposes the midriff is prohibited. This prohibition includes the exposure of the front, rear and sides of the waist. Tank tops, cutoff shirts or any garment, which reveals undergarments, are not appropriate. All tops should have two straps.
Garments including head coverings that advertise or display illegal and/or inappropriate activities for young people (drugs, alcohol, violent activities, tobacco, promiscuity, guns, or reference to cults, gangs, etc.) are not permitted.
Holes in clothing cannot reveal any undergarments.
See-through leggings are not permitted.
Students are NOT permitted to bring blankets/pillows/stuffed animals to school or walk around with blankets wrapped around any part of their body.

Fees

As in previous years, we will not be collecting student fees at the beginning of the school year. By mid-October, we will post fees to PowerSchool. At that time, we ask for prompt payment of fees. All student fee accounts must be current (no past due fees owed) in order for students to be able to participate in co-curricular (i.e., sports) and extra-curricular activities (i.e., NHS, Key Club, dances, etc.).

First Day of School

The first day of school is Thursday, August 22nd, with all high and middle school students reporting directly and promptly to their Homeroom by 8:18 a.m. to pick up their schedules and other information that will be handed out and then proceed to 2nd-period class. (Please note: Homeroom assignments will be posted throughout the high school and middle school on brightly colored paper).

Note: Students with a first-period class on their schedule are to report to that location at 7:30 a.m. on August 22nd. Student schedules can be found on PowerSchool beginning August 14th.

Homelessness

The Fairview Park City School District is committed to providing services to all resident families, including those who may be homeless in accordance with the McKinney-Vento Act. This assures that all homeless children and youth have equal access to the same free and appropriate public education as children and youth who are not homeless. Immunizations

PowerSchool Information

The Fairview Park City School District uses Powerschool, an online registration program for both new and returning students. Please know that our online registration process for returning students replaces our yearly back-to-school-forms, such as: Emergency Medical Form, Blanket Field Trip Form, Handbook Certification Form, etc. Powerschool will require parents to download the student handbook, review it with your student and sign off electronically that you and your student understand our school policies. Powerschool forms must be kept up to date.

Please log into Powerschool and verify all information through the Info Snap link pertaining to your student by August 22nd. Students will not receive their district MacBook or go on field trips until this information is complete and verified by the main office

Schedules

This year, students’ class schedules will be distributed via the students’ PowerSchool account, at Open House, as well as in Homeroom (8:18 a.m.) on the first day of school August 22. Unless there is a clerical error in the student’s schedule, changes will not be made. If there is a schedule concern, please contact your student’s School Counselor by email or by phone. Once school begins, students may fill out a meeting request form in the Counseling Office to schedule an appointment with his/her counselor. Students are permitted into the building at 7:00.

Student Parking

Student parking application forms are available on the Fairview Park City Schools website.

Visit www.fairviewparkschools.org, click on Parents, and then Forms. Select the Parking Permit Form under High School General Forms. You can also visit www.fairviewparkschools.org/forms.

Parking passes will be issued on a first-come, first-serve basis. Completed applications are to be turned into the main office of the high school.

Title I Qualifications

As a District receiving Title I federal funds, it is our responsibility to inform parents that our schools are obligated, if asked, to provide parents with the professional qualifications of their student’s classroom teachers, including:

If the teacher has met state qualification and licensing criteria for the grade level and subject area taught.
If the teacher is teaching under emergency or temporary status in which State qualifications or licensing criteria are waived.
The teacher’s baccalaureate degree major, graduate certification, and field of discipline.

Visitor Protocol

Our security system dictates that visitors park in the high school main parking lot, enter through the main entrance doors of the high school and once through the first set of doors, press the buzzer for entrance into the HS main office. For the safety of our students and employees, obtain a visitor’s pass before proceeding through the building. A driver’s license or state ID is required to obtain a visitor’s pass. When there is a need to meet with a teacher, we encourage parents to make appointments in advance so as not to disrupt the educational process.

A Note from the PTA

WELCOME BACK

Welcome to the 2024-2025 school year! We hope you had some time to rest and rejuvenate over the summer months.

The MS/HS PTA is excited to get back to work carrying out our mission to “make every child’s potential a reality” by “engaging and empowering families and communities to advocate for all children.” We look forward to a fun year supporting students and staff through events (dances, student appreciation, staff appreciation, end of the year events, etc.), programs (Reflections, Career Night) and senior scholarships, to name a few.

We will typically meet the first Tuesday of the month at 7pm in the Warrior Room; all are welcome! Any date changes will be in the weekly blast and on the district calendar. Continued this year is a Coffee (Half) Hour at 6:30 for any who wish to come and chat before the meetings.

PLEASE JOIN!

Our annual membership drive is underway. All faculty and staff will have membership forms in their mailboxes, and can join with the form itself, or by scanning the QR code on the back of the form that links to our “Givebacks”/Memberhub website.

ENCOURAGE FAMILIES TO JOIN

One of our goals for the year is to increase our membership and the involvement of our members, and we hope you can help us achieve this goal. If you are a mentor teacher, you will receive membership forms in your mailbox to distribute to your mentoring students. Please place any returned or unused/excess forms in our PTA mailbox.
