Creativity in the Community

In the Fairview High School/Mayer Middle School Innovation Center, visual art meets civic engagement through a unique course called Creativity in the Community. This service-learning art class encourages students in grades 10–12 to apply their artistic skills beyond the classroom, contributing to meaningful projects throughout the city of Fairview Park and in surrounding communities. Whether it’s designing public murals, building sculpture stands for art shows, or crafting signage for events, students gain hands-on experience while learning how art can connect, inspire, and serve.

The course also emphasizes collaboration, with students initiating projects and building partnerships with local organizations. In doing so, they learn not only artistic techniques but also how creativity intersects with civic engagement and real-world problem-solving.
